skyward sword: can\’t open gate for lanayru trial.?

ive found the trial gate. done the song, everything like i needed to for faron trial, BUT when it comes time to put the sword into the gate it wont do anything. press A + thrust wii remote down. but no response. link just stands there holding the sword, and i cant do anything.
